The Cross and Love

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 NIV

The cross, Christ crucified, is God’s love made manifest to us. As such, this is the gospel: God loves us. He is besotted with this whole wretched race of humans. God’s love for us is beyond explanation, expectation and imagination. Because of this he sent his Son, part of his very self, to show us his love. The universe was ripped apart as part of God hung on the cross and died. “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:10 NIV) The cross is love. This is the most important truth. All other is secondary.
