QQC—It Was God Who Did It!

Quirks, Queries and Commentary—Genesis 45:8

When Joseph revealed himself to his brothers, they were afraid he would retaliate against them for selling him into slavery. Joseph answers by saying, “...it was not you who sent me here, but God.” God sent Joseph into slavery? He was the active agent in what happened? He didn’t just ALLOW it to happen and brought good out of it? According to Joseph, it was God’s doing and no one else’s.

Isn't that the case with many of the calamities and misfortunes that befall men in the Bible?

Yes, and I believe it is the case today as well, since God doesn't change. Sadly, it is not a well-received truth in North American Christianity these days. We are willing to ascribe good things to God but there seems to be an assumption that if something unpleasant or bad happens, it couldn't have been God.
